One year on one of her annual visits to PA she came to visit our family. I heard a knock on the door and went to answer – I was around 10 years old. My father (her brother) yelled, “Who is it?” and I yelled back, “It’s Old Aunt Rose.” A story she retold several times during her visits. It always brings a smile to my face.
I best remember meeting Aunt Rose when I was 20 years old in February of 1984. At the time I was attending Navy bootcamp in San Diego. Mel and Rose picked me up at the Naval Station so I could spend my first two-day liberty pass with them on the Ramblin Rose. I recall being treated to a fine Mexican dinner at a local restaurant and then finishing the evening sitting on the deck of their boat engaged in conversation and drinking cold Moose Head beers. All while observing the sun setting in fine San Diego Fashion. I will forever dearly miss the fond memories of that time and others spent in her wonderful presence.
